Danse Macabre was originally a poem written by Henri Cazalis. It told a story of Death throwing a party after midnight. This poem inspired 19th century French composer, Saint-Saens, to write a piece which would musically recount the same story. Death himself plays the head violin and all of the dancing skeletons follow his lead. I was awestruck by the vividness of this piece and decided to turn it into a painting.
